The Student Outreach Committee promotes professional development for students interested in structural engineering by organizing interactive events ranging from the annual Structure Quest to resume and interview workshops. Is Student Membership Free?
YES!
How do I sign up to be a SEAoNY member?
You can send an email to admin@seaony.org with subject line: Student Membership along with a copy of your most recent transcript + graduation year.
Why should I join SEAoNY?
You get access to events, webinars, lectures, etc. that are only available to members. All student signature event signups require membership. (See below for events for this year)
What are some of the free events that SEAoNY does at each of the schools?
Structural Engineering AMA / Interview Workshop / Resume Workshop / MoIa Competition etc.
(Really anything the students think of and want to try or are interested in pursuing)
Is there a SEAoNY Chapter/Club at my school?
Currently we have (3) official student chapters at Manhattan University, NYU and The Cooper Union. We only have student liaisons from City College, City Tech, NJIT and Stevens.
Why should I help create a Chapter?
See attached presentation on SEAoNY’s mission. TLDR – SEAoNY strives to promote professional development for students interested in structural engineering through interactive events and help to integrate them more seamlessly into the larger community.
How do I create a Chapter?
You should reach out to your specific school and follow their instructions on how to create a club. SEAoNY’s only stipulations are that you must have a faculty advisor and abide by the Bylaws as shown. As well as give us a list/update of your officers (i.e. president, VP, Liaison etc)

Fall 2025
Structure Quest – October 2025
Structure Quest is a scavenger hunt throughout NYC that tests participants’ knowledge about the history, engineering principles, and impacts behind many of NYC’s iconic structures. Teams of students and professionals compete to answer the most “clues” that direct them to various locations in the city. We start the day with breakfast (can’t forget coffee!) and end with pizza, where we announce the winners and best group photos.
Mock Interview Session – November 2025
Students have the opportunity to participate in interviews with professionals in one-on-one and group settings. If your school is interested in hosting a school-specific session, please contact us at our email below.
Spring 2026
Mola Competition – February/March 2026
Shadow a Structural Engineer – March through May (Rolling), 2026
Students will “shadow” an engineer during a typical workday (half-day, typically). Students will receive direct interaction with an industry professional, providing a great way to learn about the daily life of a practicing engineer. Look out for the application in late February!
Forensic Lab – April 2026
