SEAoNY Structural Engineers Association of New York |
The SEAoNY Education Foundation* ( managed by the Scholarship Committee and 9/11 Memorial Committee) is a 501(c) 3. It was established with the goal of encouraging young people to enter the structural engineering profession by supporting area college and university students studying structural engineering. Since then, we have been able to expand our goals thanks to industry generosity. We also award scholarships to graduating high school students from the Urban Assembly School for Design and Construction and support the Center for Architecture Foundation. In 2021 the Foundation expanded it's vision and goals to bring knowledge and education of the Structural Engineering industry to the general public. We hope to partner with museums and educational institutions to help put our industry, front of mind.
In honor of the 20th Anniversary of September 11, 2001, SEAoNY is pleased to announce the formation of the 9/11 Structural Engineers Memorial Committee. Following the collapse of the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001, structural engineers and other design professionals were called upon to help maintain the stability of remaining structures and allow for the safe movement of debris. After the initial effort, SEAoNY continued to provide our services for the clean-up and investigation of the disaster, as well as to many other affected buildings south of Canal Street. SEAoNY seeks to build upon its direct connection to this important history and to educate the public on the importance of structural engineering.
Through the SEAoNY Education Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, the 9/11 SE Memorial Committee is seeking contributions to create a short documentary highlighting structural engineer’s expert knowledge, collective memory, and resources which ensured the success of the heroic recovery effort. The intended audience for this film includes students, young professionals, and the general public.
SEAoNY will honor all contributors in the film, on our website, and in our Cross Sections newsletter.
