2027 SEAoNY Annual Conference

The conference will be held in Midtown New York on Thursday, February 11, 2027. 

Not a Typical Detail – Engineering Without a Template

Unusual structural systems driven by one-off conditions or atypical constraints can demand solutions for which there is simply no typical detail. To successfully deliver a project, an engineer is prompted to design outside of the box, utilize uncommon building material (s) and/or unconventional structural systems. This year’s conference will look beyond project scale to highlight the surprising, weird, and wonderful engineering challenges and opportunities that demand creative thinking and resist easy categorization.

Potential topics include:

• Specialty and one-of a kind structures or systems

• Unconventional project design or delivery methods

• Uncommon loading (i.e. blast, vibration)

• Atypical building materials

• Research from the academia-to-industry pipeline

• Historical investigations

• Public art / Sculptural commissions

• Sustainable Design and Material Re-use

• Progressive Collapse

• Performance Based Design

Presenters should plan a 45-60 minute presentation for an audience of structural engineers, code officials, students, and design and construction peers. We ask that all interested presenters complete the 2027 SEAoNY Annual Conference Abstract Form by November 13, 2026. Selected presenters will be notified December 13, 2026.
