Course Descriptions:
Classroom Description: In this training the Department of Buildings Emergency Management Unit will educate participants on current threats which could have significant impact on the agency’s emergency preparedness and response. Participants will learn about standardized procedures pertaining to agency responsibility in event of a major disastrous situation.
Classroom Learning Objectives:
1. Participants will discuss and evaluate best practices to multiple emergency scenarios.
2. Participants will identify distinctions between minor and major emergency events.
3. Participants will review and be able to summarize the Department’s core competency expectation per current City-Wide Incident Management System (CIMS)
4. Participants will review operational steps and technical training of Structural Damage Assessment.
Field Training Course Description: The Department of Buildings Emergency Management Unit with logistical support by FDNY Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Academy will conduct field exercise as part of NYC readiness to possible disastrous events in accordance with executive order #107. Participants will play emergency responders role by performing a real time structural assessment on hypothetically destroyed by the hurricane buildings.
Field Training Learning Objectives:
1. Participants will perform departmental operational procedures regarding critical communication tactics (including but not limited to radio usage).
2. Participants will perform Structural Damage Assessment using latest technology (Survey 123 Smart Phone Application & Drone Imagery).
3. Participants will participate in emergency transportation plan.
4. Participants will apply their CIMS knowledge by reporting to field Incident Command.
