Event Details:

A technical lecture on the design of NY’s newest signature skyscraper in midtown. The lecture will discuss challenges overcome and unique solutions provided during the design of the superstructure, substructure, and transit improvements/connection to Grand Central Terminal for the One Vanderbilt project.


Objectives and Learning Methods:

1.      Understand the design and logistical challenges overcome in placing the thick shallow foundations of at One Vanderbilt.
2.      Understand the benefits realized at One Vanderbilt by advanced shop drawing level BIM modeling of MEP and structural steel ahead of subcontractor awards.
3.      Understand the benefits realized at One Vanderbilt by working in a temporary steel erection frame ahead of and ultimately encased within the concrete core.
4.      Understand the challenges overcome within the One Vanderbilt lateral system to control drift and occupant comfort at upper levels.
5.      Describe the complexities of modifying / strengthening the existing MTA structure associated with One Vanderbilt Transit Improvements.
6.      Explain the analysis and strengthening approach for the Vanderbilt Plaza structure.


Speakers:

Megan Lisbon is a Professional Engineer with 7 years of design and project management experience at Stantec. During this time, she has contributed to a number of NYC's Transit Oriented development (TOD) projects including One Vanderbilt transit improvements in East Midtown, Manhattan and Skyline Tower transit improvements in Long Island City, Queens. Megan’s expertise lies in all aspects of a project including project management, conceptual planning, detailed structural analysis and design, stakeholder coordination, and construction administration.

Megan is licensed as a Professional Engineer in New York. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and Master of Science in Civil Engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology.


DANIEL SURRETT is a Professional Engineer and a Senior Associate at SEVERUD Associates where he has been building his career since graduating from the university of Notre dame in 2006. He collaborates with clients and manages internal projects teams for the design, analysis, documentation, and construction of high-rise structures and other buildings. Dan managed the structural project teams for One Vanderbilt. His other notable projects include Bank of America Tower at One Bryant Park, 375 Pearl Street, Madison Square Garden V–The Transformation, and University of Chicago’s Logan Center for the Arts.
