05.05.08: SEAoNY Call to Action: Commissioner of Buildings Qualifications
Proposed legislation has been introduced that would eliminate the requirement that the New York City Department of Buildings Commissioner be a professional engineer (PE) or a registered architect (RA). The bill is scheduled for a committee hearing on Wednesday May 7, 2008 at 1 pm in City Hall, so time is running out to make yourself heard.

02.21.08: Underpinning Info from the NYC DOB
As distributed at the February 19th event on the NYC Department of Building's Excavation Unit, we have posted a PDF of the program flyer. This flyer includes checklists for underpinning, information that should be included on construction documents, and resources for historic building information.

12.10.07: SEAoNY Appointment to ATC Board
SEAoNY would like to extend our congratulations to Ramon Gilsanz PE, SE of Gilsanz, Murray, Steficek, LLP, for being appointed by SEAoNY’s Board of Directors to partake in a 3 year term on the Board of the Applied Technology Council (ATC) on SEAoNY’s behalf.

11.29.07: ATC Questionnaire on Emerging Structural Issues
The ATC Board of Directors and Executive Staff are now seeking input from the structural engineering profession on a variety of emerging issues that will affect ATC’s programmatic decisions over the coming months and years. Their goal is to develop and implement programs that have lasting value to the structural engineering profession. To assist in this process they have developed a questionnaire designed to obtain perspectives on emerging issues in structural engineering from leaders in the profession.
