SEAoNY COMMITTEES
Participation in SEAoNY's numerous committees helps the organization to grow continuously and function efficiently. Consider joining a committee to become more directly involved in development of SEAoNY.
SEAoNY's membership is spread across an array of different committees, each one focusing on a vital facet of the organization. Our current committees are listed below. Please click on the committee names if you would like to contact a committee and learn more. SEAoNY's primary committees are also listed in your membership profile - please indicate your interest by selecting the checkboxes and you will receive periodic correspondence from the respective committee chairpersons. Your involvement is appreciated!

The Codes & Standards Committee provides information to members regarding changes in codes. It also makes recommendations for amendments to the codes which would incorporate new developments in various aspects of the design of structures.

The Foundations Committee discusses the complications of foundations work in New York and possible improvements to current practices, for ultimate incorporation into current codes.

The Membership Committee encourages those in the practice of structural engineering and allied professionals to become members of the association. It also maintains membership files and publishes the membership directory.

The Professional Practice Committee organizes workshops, seminars, and other forums to permit the exchange of ideas, experience and techniques related to the practice of Structural Engineers in New York.

The Programs Committee plans meetings and workshops and arranges for the annual meeting. This includes selecting the event date and venue, and preparing all announcements and mailings in conjunction with the event.

The Publications Committee collects appropriate news and other material for inclusion in the SEAoNY Newsletter. This includes editing, printing and distributing the Newsletter.

The Underpinning Committee discusses the difficult practice of underpinning and associated safety concerns in both New York and beyond, to investigate incorporation into current codes.

The University Outreach Committee will focus on bridging the gap between the Professional Community of New York's engineers with the Universities. SEAoNY is contacting universities to help with curriculum, course suggestions, and bringing lectures to the schools. These lectures will be given by SEAoNY members in the form of guest lectures for classrooms or a separate program all together. By bridging this gap, students will have direct access to the various structural engineering companies of New York to contact for internships, career suggestions, and job opportunities. The professional community will be able to give students an idea of what the day in the life of a structural engineer is like and be able to give course suggestions to universities that they feel will train the students for the professional world. SEAoNY will continue offering their monthly lectures available to students at a discounted price as well.

The Website Committee maintains the website, working with the different committees to ensure that all site information is current and accurately displayed.
